GM 8/21 (Room Change!): Q-Wave in the National LGBTQ Visibility Movement

August 14, 2009

Dear Q-Wavers!

Welcome back to the regular Q- Wave general meeting schedule after 2 months of exciting Pride festivities!

As some of you know, the National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Association Conference is taking place August 14-16th at the University of Washington in Seattle.  7 of our Q-Wave general and SC members will attend, participate and present in the workshops and caucuses.  This is the second national API LGBTQ conference in the recent U.S. history, and it marks how far we have come and continue to forge forward in our effort to create greater visibility & empowerment for our communities in the United States and beyond.

This is a very exciting time to get involved.

Our goals to raise awareness, empowerment, and visibility have given us tremendous recognition in the public communities. Q-Wave has been awarded grants from Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, Stonewall Community Foundation, and Asian Women Giving Circle to further our goals through a variety of projects. With greater recognition comes greater responsibilities and aspiration for greater achievements.

This GM is the perfect place and time to get involved. The Q-Wavers who attended the Seattle Conference will bring back what they have seen, learned and accomplished and how Q-Wave’s mission and agenda fits into the  movement.  We will have an open presentation and discussion of Q-Wave’s greater visibility campaign: The Asian Pride Project and the community visibility project: Chinese New Year Parade in Chinatown 2009. Please bring your ideas on what you would like to see happen for the Queer API communities!

We will discuss the grants, the teams, and we are inviting your creative talent to make the projects alive!  Everyone is welcome, and everybody is needed
