Come ‘N Hang Out Coffee Hour – 10/24/2010

October 18, 2010

Hello everyone,

My apology for sending the coffee hour email out a bit late this month. Our up coming Coffee Hour will be next Sunday Oct 24, exactly a week from today.

We are going back to East Village for Coffee Hour this month. It’s at TKettle, which features bubble tea, and various delicious Taiwanese snacks in a casual bubbly setting. There are also plenty of restaurants near by for dinner after Coffee Hour which we usually have after coffee hour. Come meet new friends and old alike. Come check out what Q-wave have been up to. I’ll tell you stories about how the Q-wave apple picking trip went ( that’s the day before Coffee Hour).

I am also taking suggestion for future Q-wave Coffee Hour locations. Let me know if you see a cool that can accommodate a group of 10 or so in the city or the boroughs.

Q-WAVE GM: How can my VOTE affect Change?

October 8, 2010

Dear Q-WAVERS:

It has been an eventful year for the LGBTQ community and the NYC QAPI people in the political arena. What are the political context and implications on issues of marriage equality, anti-discrimination and immigration in this upcoming November 2nd election? Most importantly, how can YOU make a difference with your VOTE?

Come to this General Meeting to share your views and to learn about how the election on Nov. 2nd will affect our community on these issues, the impact it will have on our movement-building, how we can more actively engage in civic participation and what differences can our participation in this election and elections in general make to the pertinent issues that impact our civil rights and safety.

We have invited many special guests who are QAPI community advocates on these issues to join us and share their expert opinions, including Priyanka Mitra, Pauline Park, Jenna Ness, Glenn Magpantay, Becca Ahuja, Vidari DeGuzman, Shawn Jain, Gabriela Villareal and Andy Mara to help discuss some of these questions like:

  • Why is it important for QAPI people to vote?
  • Why should I vote NOW?
  • Where are the important races?
  • What is really at stake for our community?
  • How can we make real change through being actively involved in elections?

And the forum will be facilitated by our very own Un Jung Lim!

So, join us at this very special forum and share your thoughts!! As usual, refreshments and snacks will be available, and you are welcome to bring your own to share!
