Sylvia's Place, a homeless shelter for LGBTQ youths, is seeking volunteers to help clean and paint its newest shelter on W. 155th St. on Nov. 17th. She is the founder of the avant-garde street art show studio &lt;a href="http://www.aozoraart.com/index_e.htm" target="_new"&gt;Aozora Art&lt;/a&gt; and the writer and artist of the semi-autobiographic al manga &lt;a href="http://www.amazon.com/Ricatte- Kanji-Rica-Takashima/dp/0975916017" target="_new"&gt;Rica'tte Kanji!?&lt;/a&gt;, which initially ran in Anise, Japan's premier lesbian magazine at the time, before being compiled and released as a graphic novel. She currently has an ongoing 4-panel manga strip Susume! NY-do in the free weekly Japanese language paper NY Japion and is in the process of permanently moving to the Big Apple.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Please join us as Rica covers everything from coming out to her work with Aozora Art, why she started drawing Rica'tte Kanji!? to her thoughts on queerness, and her experiences within the Tokyo queer community to her vision for the future! Because the taiko (drums) are at noon. NOTE: the garden is no longer FREE during Cherry Blossom weekend! (Normal admission $8 general/$4 student with ID). If you're not sure the gathering is still on because of rain, please check the listserv or our website on the morning of the event.
