Meet Our Wonderful steering Committee!

Karen Lee

Karen (she/her) is the daughter of working class Cantonese Chinese immigrants; this background has shaped her passion for the empowerment of marginalized populations.  Her professional background is in public health and is currently working for the NYC Department of Health.  She has been a member of Q-Wave since 2005 and particularly likes creating events/space to empower and educate our queer API community. She finds it especially rewarding to foster community so we can have a place where we belong.  She is an avid bicyclist, traveler and in her spare time, she can be found in the nearest ethnic hole-in-the-wall eatery.

Michelle Ngo

Michelle (they/them) joined Q-Wave in late 2019, when they moved to NYC from Memphis seeking queer and Asian community. Michelle is the daughter of Vietnamese refugees and values culture sharing/learning through food. They currently work in fundraising and advocacy at a national nonprofit, and lives in Manhattan with their partner. Michelle can be found binge-watching a TV show (Bob’s Burgers, anyone?) or geeking over food in some shape or form!

Christine Liu

Christine (she/her) fell into Q-Wave sometime during 2018 looking for other queer APIs. She loves how Q-Wave brings visibility to our community while simultaneously creating intimate connections between its members. She is the child of Taiwanese-Chinese immigrants, a concept she is always down to talk at length about. She currently works on data stuff at a startup and can be found biking (often behind Karen), talking about how male-dominated the tech industry is, and proselytizing the Park Slope Food Coop.

Jane Wu

Jane (she/her) has been part of Q-Wave since 2016 and became a Steering Committee member in mid-2022. She appreciates the amazing community that Q-Wave offers. A waste management nerd, she loves her stooping and her local buy nothing groups. Her hobbies include eating delicious food, gardening, and woodworking. She is the proud pet parent to two sweet elder-bunnies, Ube and Mochi.

Victoria Lopez

Victoria (she/they) first found Q-Wave in early 2019 and became a Steering Committee member later that year. She helps out with the biweekly newsletter and also co-runs Q-Wave's book club! During the day, they work in book publishing, and in their spare time enjoy journaling, crocheting, and playing Scrabble. (Photo credit: Cal Hsiao)
